Breeding & Preparing Winners: Physically & Mentally

The Field & Country Racing Team

Stuart Matheson - Operations Manager
"Living at Bolton Hall Stables is a great privilege. From managing suppliers to purchasing horses to dealing with the administration, it's all about getting the best out of the horses and making the owners feel they are buying into a professional and caring team.  We have a great team here and it is my role to ensure the machine is running well, allowing the Field & Country Racing team to concentrate on training.  Value for money is important for us - owners deserve a good deal"

Gary Sanderson - Trainer
Gary has masses of experience in the racing industry, as a jockey, assistant trainer and now our resident licensed trainer.  He has worked for some of the major trainers in the UK as well as overseas.  A natural horseman with a gentle, yet firm touch, Gary has prepared some excellent horses to win the major races in the calendar as an accomplished assistant trainer.  As the leader of our training team, we look forward to some future successes.

Sarah Matheson - Yard & Youngstock Manager
"There is nothing better than getting a young horse and bringing it on in a way that it really enjoys the work, and wants to perform to the best of its abilities.  We make sure the yard is a place where horses and staff feel at home.  We use the best feeds and locally sourced hay and haylage."  Sarah has previously worked at a variety of successful yards and brings a professional but fun approach to the team.

Carly Dixon - Senior Work Rider

Carly has worked at yards in the local area for a number of years and has completed a number of courses at the Northern Racing School. She has a great way with the horses and has extensive experience in getting horses ready for the races.

Michael Darwin Dip WCF - Farrier
Michael lives in Grassington.  He has great patience with the youngsters, which makes shoeing horses so much easier as they grow older.  He regularly visits the yard and provides a great service at reasonable fees.

Stirks Vets (incorporating Minster Vets)
Based in Ripon, with a large equine hospital in York, since their merger with Minster Vets, Stirks have a wealth of experience in dealing with thoroughbreds.  Regular weekly visits to the area means that we can ask them to attend when required, as well as carry out regular, routine visits.

Samantha Norris - Equine Dentist
Keeping horses teeth in good condition is important in ensuring they can eat properly and deal with the work of training in comfort.  Sam is based near Tadcaster and regularly visits the yard.  Visit her website at www.snedt.com

*Routine dental check-ups are included in our fees

Dr. Chris Pearson - Physiotherapist
Chris visits the yard on a routine basis to ensure our horses are in the peak of condition.  Like any athlete, horses can suffer muscular and skeletal injuries during training and competing - we believe that by using Chris' skills our horses work harder & compete better.
